Year 6 Hockey Tournament

Year 6 will be taking part in a cluster, mixed school teams hockey tournament on Monday next week at Abergavenny Leisure Centre. This will be a fun way for our Year 6 children to meet the other children going to King Henry in September.

Family Breakfast

You are invited to share a breakfast with your children, at our Breakfast Club on Friday April 7th between 8:15- 8:40am.

National Tests

National Tests for children in Years 2,3,4,5 and 6 will be held on Wednesday 3rd, Thursday 4th and Friday 5th of May. All children must be in school to sit these tests; no holidays will be authorised for these days.

Year 5 Trip to Tal-Y-Bont & Y6 Trip to London

The next instalment for the Tal-Y-Bont and London trips is now due.

The outdoor pursuit’s trip to Tal-Y-Bont will be taking place after the National tests on May 8th, 9th and 10th.

The trip to London is scheduled for July 10th and 11th. This trip will go ahead unless the terror threat is raised or the school is advised by the Local Authority that the trip cannot go ahead. If parents do not want their child to be a part of this exciting opportunity then their deposits will be refunded.

Head lice

We have had another breakout of head lice at school. The advice still remains the same that your child and all family members need to be treated and the treatment repeated as per the instructions on the bottle. Free lotions can be sought from your GP. Once the infestation has gone regular combing with a nit comb as part of the bath time routine once a week will ensure that the infestation does not reoccur.

However, we need EVERYBODY to follow this advice.

New Nursery Intake

The 3 year old children joining nursery after the Easter break are invited to attend a taster session at Nursery on Thursday April 6th between 2-3pm.

Nursery will re-open after the Easter break on Wednesday April 26th, to allow staff to go on home visits.

School Meals

School meals will be increasing in price from April 1st by 10p to £2.10 per day/ £10.50 per week. This will be the last week of this term. School meals must be paid for in advance at the beginning of the week. They can be paid at the office or sent to school in an envelope marked with your child’s name, class and the days you wish them to take a school meal.

Lunch menus and information about free school meals entitlement can be found on Monmouthshire County Council’s website.

PTFA

The PTFA will be running an art day at school for Key Stage 2 on the 4th April. They need families to donate ceramics (china cups, plates, bowls, etc. to be used for mosaics), Lego, bottle tops and plastic letter magnets.

The PTFA Chocolate Bingo will be hosted at school on Friday March 31st at 6pm. This is a fun evening for all the family with hot dogs and refreshments for sale.

Events in the Community

Holy Trinity Church is holding an Easter Crafts Morning on Wednesday 12th April 10.00-11.30a.m.

Crafts and activities for all the family.  Refreshments provided.

Golden Rules

We are learning about the second of our four Golden Rules, ‘We are kind and gentle’. Children will be able to earn ‘Golden Tickets’ for following this rule and the rule of ‘Looking after property’.

Golden Rule

  • We are honest – we don’t cover up the truth
  • We are kind and gentle – we don’t hurt  others and we don’t hurt their feelings
  • We listen and work hard – we don’t interrupt and we don’t waste our own or others’ time
  • We look after property – we don’t waste or damage things.
